Hobbies and Interests

Indoor Rowing:  During 2002, I moved out of my comfort zone of windsurfing in a 7.5 metre max sail sized fleet to that of Unlimited size.  The difference was enormous, I had to put a great deal more effort into my sailing.  Particularly with the pumping of the sail for light wind day's.  My arms just weren't strong enough.  So, to improve their strength, my general fitness and Sandra's too, we have bought ourselves an indoor rower.  I love it.  We spent an extra few bob and got the one with the PM2+ monitor, this enables you to connect it to your computer for more varied workouts, and, and this is the best bit for me, with an extra bit of software, you can compete or train with rowers on line from all over the world!  Brilliant!  So, I am now a confirmed online rower and have joined a virtual rowing club!  See my progress and results on the rowing page.

Windsurfing:  I've been windsurfing - and more specifically racing, since 1980.  I love it.  I sail for the RAF and compete on the National circuit throughout the summer.  Had a busy season during 2004, my first year in the National Formula fleet,  (short fat boards as opposed to long thin ones).  It was harder than I imagined and for most of the season I was amongst the tail end Charlies - oh dear.  Still never mind, I did go to nearly all the events, and collected points every time.  hence overall I finished 31 out of 134 in the National Rankings - and with that I was quite pleased.  View results (external site)

I have been a member of the RAF Sailing Association (RAFSA) committee for many years and currently look after their Sailors database and the RAFSA Website. More.

Computers: I enjoy dabbling with computers, websites with different software applications; php and asp for example, and also the physical side of repairing them and upgrades for friends and neighbours. I also enjoy teaching others to use them too.

Clocks: I'm quite practical and have enjoyed combining clock making with faulty computer parts; motherboards and hard drives etc.  I don't make any money out of it, just the pleasure.  They normally go as gifts to those that would appreciate them, - leaving gifts for the computer guys in my work place for example.

Woodwork: I enjoy carpentry and have made a number of item of furniture for the house.  The grandest being a four poster double bed - now cut down to size as it wouldn't go up the stairs!  My next project is for a Long-case clock.  I have had this in mind for a few years now but have never had the time to get it off the ground.

Gardening: My wife, Sandra, is a very keen gardener.  Thankfully we have moved to a house with a wonderful well established garden.  My job is to mow the lawn and clean out the filter in the fish pond!

BVGA:  The Blackwater Valley Group of artists are a local group of artists who meet once a week or fortnight to sketch, paint and draw.  Sandra is their "Events Coordinator and together, we run their web site. www.blackwaterartists.org.uk

Tempsford 2000: Tempsford 2000 was a committee set up within the village to arrange the celebrations for the millennium.  The committee raised over £2000 in 1998 and 1999 and celebrated the millennium with a Children's Party on the afternoon of Dec 31st and an Adults party during the evening.  Each child in the village was given a commemorative mug to mark the occasion of the millennium.
